Mahalo PRSA Hawaii

Aloha!

I'm still shaking some sand out of my suitcase from last week's visit with PRSA-Hawai. What a trip! Sand, surf, sun and some PR thrown in for fun!

I had a great meeting with District Secretary Kristin Bonilla, APR and Duke Gonzales, APR, the chapter's representative to the Western District Board where we discussed the direction of the chapter and how the district and and PRSA national can better meet the needs of this remote chapter.

The following morning, I met with nearly a dozen members of the chapter board and Strategic Advisory Committee. It was great to hear about the amazing success they were having with their awards event even with the tough economy that, like many other chapters, is challenging membership recruitment and retention as well as program turnout.

PRSA-Hawaii is led by some great rising stars in PRSA including Chapter President Nathan Kam and President-Elect Moani Wright-Van Alst. They are making great strides to reach out to prospective members through a program mix of traditional luncheons and professional development programming.

Thursday evening, I had the honor of extending congratulations and best wishes to the chapter on behalf of the Western District at the Koa Anvil Awards. It was a beautiful event and it was great to see all of the outstanding work and individuals who were honored.

Special congratulations to Donda Spiker, APR for winning the Gregg W. Perry Public Relations Professional of the Year award. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to PRSA and the APR program. I personally appreciated your encouraging words to the market's prospective APR candidates. I can personally attest to the fact that it was one of the most challenging and beneficial professional development experiences of my career.

Thanks again to Nathan, Duke, Kristin, Nancy Daniels, APR, and the rest of the PRSA-Hawaii board and chapter for making me feel so welcomed.

Mahalo!
