Extracurricular Activities
People planning to attend the Western District Conference (http://www.westerndistrictconference.com/) should seriously consider a long weekend in Newport Beach. The leisure opportunities here are amazing.
We have something for almost every taste -- from top amusement parks (Disneyland, California Adventure, Knott's Berry Farm) to some of the world's best shopping (Fashion Island, South Coast Plaza).
Like sports? The Angels will be hosting the Detroit Tigers on Thursday night, followed by three games against division rivals Seattle Mariners. If you're more into the yachting scene, the Newport to Ensenada Yacht Race begins on Friday, April 24.
Enjoy cinema? The Newport Beach Film Festival opens Thursday night (April 23), and the Pacific Symphony will be screening the original 1925 version of "Phantom of the Opera," accompanied by a symphony orchestra and pipe organ, April 23-25.
If country music is more your style, check out the Stagecoach Festival, which will be held in the Palm Springs area that weekend. Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Reba, the Charlie Daniels Band and even Kid Rock (!) will be among the performers.
These are but a few of the options available to those considering a little "R&R" after the mind expanding stimulation of our conference. I'll share a few more suggestions in a future post.

2009 Western District Conference
Planning is moving full speed ahead on this year's Western District Conference, which will be held in Newport Beach April 22-24. We have a killer line-up of speakers, who will be discussing issues ranging from digital trends and social media to crisis communications and mommy blogging.
And at $195 for PRSA members, the conference is a real bargain, too!
Look forward to seeing you in Newport Beach!
